The final, completed scene with Ollie's composition included.

The completed scene but only with sound effects

I have included two versions of this scene, one without the music, displaying only the sound effects and ADR, the other being the complete version with Ollie’s composition included, to enable me to examine how music adds value to a movie scene.

I thought the music Ollie composed was intense and very atmospheric. He was able to capture the mood of the scene well and added depth to the overall sound.

The music started off very sinister, he used heavily distorted guitar and lots of alchemy to create an eerie bending, sustained whirr. I think this reflected the threatening nature of the news story heard on the TV and sets the scene well. The music then changes drastically to heavy, rock and roll style guitar and up beat drums, this switch in tone gives connotations of heroism and seriousness, as if someone is going on a mission.

The change in the music supported the visuals and was the moment of realisation that Iron Man was going to do something to stop the menacing events.

I think without the music, the scene was empty and flat. Including the music created more emotion and enhanced the story and visuals.

The overall sound was fuller and made for a better viewing and listening experience.
